Captain / Station 1

Capt. Hopkins is a Sycuan fire captain assigned to Station One on the Sycuan Indian Reservation. The young professional career fire captain is pictured above teaching a class about hose laying operations to the Sycuan-BIA Wildland Fire and Avaition Academy in April 2009.

SHARP EYES A sharp-eyed Sycuan instructor, fire Captain Warren Hopkins, spotted this large southern Pacific rattlesnake as a Sycuan fire trainee was about to step beside it during a hectic hose lay exercise up a steep, badly eroded mountain trail.
Wildland experts on scene said the big rattlesnake had been lying dormant in a deep rut in the trail and the hose water forced it to flee its hiding place for higher ground....
